The problem we Pac-10 fans have had in recent years is that our lower tier bowl games suck ass. The current set up is #1 to the Rose (unless that team is headed for the Big Enchilada), #2 Holiday in San Diego, #3 Sun in El Paso, #4 Las Vegas in, of all places, Las Vegas and #5 to the Emerald in San Francisco.
I’ve been to the Holiday Bowl, and December in San Diego is not necessarily a bad place to be. And is there ever a bad time to be in Vegas? But the winter months aren’t that great in the Bay Area, and El Paso has a deserved reputation as America’s Anal Fistula.
Reshuffling a bit and adding the Alamo Bowl as our new #2 strikes me as a good plan. Where that leaves the Holiday, I don’t know, but I’d like to see the Pac-1o #3 keep it as an option. That gives the Pac-10 three good bowl games for their Top 3 teams, which year in and year out, are certainly better than the top teams in the Big-10 or that abomination called the Big East.
