Just when you thought it was safe to go back on the asphalt

19 08 2009

The ugly heat wave returns with a vengeance.  Temperatures are back in the mid-to-high 90s, bleargh.  I think I shall stay in this nice air conditioned library, work on my writing/editing and look productive while laughing at the poor fools outside.  Right now, there’s a painting class of some kind at the corner of Wall and Franklin, which would be fun and laudable if it weren’t so flippin’ hot.  With these temperatures, I suspect all their work may end up looking more derivative of Dali by the time their done.

In other news, new digs in less than two weeks!  I am greatly looking forward to the move, and having Paul as a roommate again.  This sounds weird even to me, but it’s going to be nice to share a living space with another human being again.  The only thing I would change is to replace the 30+ year old stove with a newer model that has more than two burners – who knows, maybe I can find one cheap and install it myself out of the magnanimosity of my heart.  I don’t think the owners would complain with a free stove.  My buddy Jon has a warehouse full of old appliances – he works for a moving company – perhaps a deal can be wrangled.

I think this will also be the largest place the kitties have ever lived in.  They can finally run around to their heart’s content and not be cooped up anymore.

And speaking of health insurance…I don’t got any anymore.  Apparently the cholesterol-lowering drugs I took a several months ago – and which I’m not taking anymore, having dropped twenty-odd pounds – have now made me too much of a health risk, so my carrier dumped me.  I should be eligible to go onto a state plan, but still…there’s a reason why insurance companies are rapidly joining the ranks of LaRouchies, IRS agents and Spencer and Heidi as America’s Least Favorite People.

At this point, I’m all for socialism!  Where’s the Up With Socialism rally?  Gimme that Canadian health care, I’ll take that!

Favorite quote from a recent town hall: “Keep the government out of my Medicare!”  I am not making that up.  I fear for this nation.
