To better times

31 12 2009

I began this year by myself, watching TV, getting hammered on cheap red wine and playing World of Warcraft.  I suspect the year may end similarly, although at least with better quality hooch.  I’ve been looking for a party or such to crash, but none seem to be forthcoming, and the idea of going out and getting drunk with strangers listening to too-loud music I don’t even like has little appeal for me anymore.  To be honest, inviting a few friends over for an evening of board games is much more my style.

I remember the last New Year’s Cheryl and I had; we invited everyone over for a shindig at our place, I went out and bought a buttload of groceries – and only Miss Vanessy and Dave Zapeda showed up.  That really pissed us both off, too, as I recall.

Tonight is definitely not a night to be out driving.  We got a few inches of snow this morning, which has rapidly turned to puddles of slush once the temps hit around 40.  Once the sun goes down, it’ll start snowing again, meaning we’ll have wet snow on top of frozen slush.  This does not make for good driving conditions.  Again, I’m close to downtown, there’s any number of bars I can hit…but that’s just not my style anymore.  Paul and I might do something, we’ll see.

2009 was at least a better year for me.  Glad to be back in Bend, I have a job I enjoy (still not much money, but I like it, and that counts for a lot), and I’ve got a nice place for me and the cats.

Assuming I don’t drink myself into a drunken stupor tonight, I suspect tomorrow will be spend cleaning (I always re-cure my voluminous cast iron collection every Jan. 1st) and cooking.  I got some really inexpensive pomegranates today, so I may continue on my vodka infusing kick and make some pomegranate-infused vodka.

Here’s for hoping the next year is better for you and yours.
