Yet another Saturday night…

14 02 2010

Just kicking back here in the recliner, watching the Olympics and trying to keep the cats off the keyboard.  Oh, yes, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day.  Please don’t remind me.

Man, I am falling behind on my blogging.  Between the freelance stuff and the job-that-may-someday-pay-something, sitting down and blasting out a decent blog post has been…difficult.

So about the job.  Some days I think “hey, this might work,” sometimes it’s “why am I wasting my time here?”  Last week was a good chunk of both.  I basically blew off two days from work because I just was not feeling well, burned out and just needed some sleep.  We are kind-of figuring out what we’re doing it, getting more Facebook and Twitter followers (critical for advertisers), but we’re really trying to make money off of a beta.  What is this, Tribes 2?

Supposedly, we’ve got some money coming in soon.  I really hope so.  With my general level of burnout, I am very, very rapidly approaching the fish-or-cut-bait point, and I’m getting tired of watching the numbers in my bank account continue to dwindle.

Then again, it’s not like anyone else here in the land of 20% unemployment is throwing money at me, however…

So, I recently got a call from an old compadre of mine in the computer game biz; a friend and a man I consider something of a mentor, and one of the few genuine non-weasels in the industry.  Turns out, he’s looking to move to back to Bend and wants to open his own little startup software house up here, and he’s got me being his point man for finding housing up here.  He also mentioned that, yes, he’d be looking for a writer once he gets things going.  Would I be interested?

Is the Pope Pol…er, German?  It’s German now, right?  Is the Pope German?  Yes, I would be very interested.

So hurry up and move here already!  Houses aren’t getting any cheaper (actually, they kind of are, but that’s another story).

I always said I’d never get back into the game biz, but this is one of the few people I’d consider doing it for.  Besides, we’re both old timers at this point, we’d brook no more death marches.

So what else is going on?

My sister is back in town during one of her usual few-months-between-jobs breaks.  Hopefully we can help our parents out in terms of getting finances and medical information organized.  Not sure what’s planned for tomorrow.

I suppose I should write more but nothing else is coming to mind.  Man, I’d love to get back to working on my novel, but as Jack Bauer would say, there’s just not enough time!

Game programming hard. I did that for a while. Nothing good mind you, but a lot of work went into it. Months and months and months of coding.

I would do it again.

Especially if I had a good friend looking to hook up with me and give me a job.
